Ana Mercedes Hoyo (1951-2018) was a prominent visual artist and cultural promoter from the Dominican Republic. She was known for her colorful and vibrant paintings and sculptures that reflect her Caribbean heritage and explore themes of identity, history, and social justice. Hoyo studied art at the National School of Fine Arts in Santo Domingo and later at the Art Students League of New York. Throughout her career, she held numerous exhibitions in the Dominican Republic, the United States, Europe, and Latin America, and she was the recipient of many awards and recognitions. Besides her artistic work, Hoyo also played an active role in promoting cultural education and social change, particularly through her involvement in various organizations that support youth and women's empowerment. After her death in 2018, she was remembered as one of the most influential artists of the Dominican Republic.
